Well, That Certainly Took Off…

Well, That Certainly Took Off…

Friday night, we went out to dinner, and I made SURE that we were home in time to watch Artemis come home. And once she was down and safe, I posted something to my social media. And… it certainly took off.

I’ve never had a post ever that gained the traction this one did. Friends have been tagging me when they see it, so I know how far it’s gone. And I’ve tripped on one person who stole the post and claimed it for their own, which… I suppose that means I’m a real writer? (a real annoyed writer…)

Funny thing, though — I got part of the details wrong. The pieces of Challenger and Columbia were part of the heritage parts used to build the boosters, and were not carried aboard Integrity on her mission. But, as someone on Threads put it when I clarified my misunderstanding, they were still part of it. The sentiment holds even if their seats changed. Which I think is true. I also think that this mission healed the hearts of a lot of people who were watching in school and saw the moment when Challenger touched the face of God.

The other part that I got wrong? I had NO idea that there’s another piece of the Wright brothers’ plane further out in space. It’s on Mars, and it’s inside of Ingenuity, the tiny helicopter that went to space with her big sister Perseverance. The spirit of the first powered flight in human history lifted the first powered flight on another planet. That’s kinda cool.

Yes, I am a space geek. What’s your point?

Happy Book Day Eve!

Happy Book Day Eve!

Happy Book Day Eve to those who celebrate. I certainly do! Tomorrow is release day for The Coral Throne, which brings to a close a story that is old enough to drive in the state of Florida.

I’ve told this story before — in 2009, I woke up with this character in my head. His name was Tarjiaan, and he would not shut up. In the 45 minute drive to Ikea, I had most of the worldbuilding, and I actually ditched my family for about half an hour once we got there to go sit in the restaurant with a cup of coffee and write everything down. Then I shared the information with a writer friend, and we started writing what would become The Sea Prince. However, Tarjiaan stopped talking to me. Dead stop, do not pass go, do not collect $200. So things got put to the side.

Flash forward to 2023. I pulled the manuscript out from under the virtual bed, reread it (which I’d done probably about six times over the years), and realized where it was broken and how to fix it. What I felt on finishing The Sea Prince was, I imagine, the writing equivalent of summiting Mount Everest… except then I had to do it again because the story wasn’t done. I had to wrap things up and bring it all home. I had rewritten the synopsis for the second part, and I knew where it was going, but there were still some surprises (does anyone ever plan for the cat?) The transition felt rushed, and I had to rework that because there was not enough material for a third book.

Stop laughing. Even I can say that once.

And then it was done. And tomorrow, you all finally get to see the finished work.

It Snowed.

It Snowed.

Let me repeat that. IT SNOWED. Why is this so groundbreakingly weird? Because I live just north of Orlando. This is where people go to vacation AWAY from snow. It is not supposed to snow here! And yet, we had two nights of below freezing weather (in the 20s, with windchills between 8 and 11 degrees). We set our outdoor taps to drip into buckets overnight so they wouldn’t freeze, and woke up to frozen solid buckets.

It’s COLD.

And next week, it will be near 90. I never thought I’d say this, but I’m getting tired of weird. I’d like some boring. At least, boring where the weather is concerned.

I’ll settle for not freezing my tail off Thursday night when we head out to the Volusia Mall for the Galentine’s Day Gala at Native Home. Writers, artists, and purveyors of adult toys will be available for your shopping pleasure. Dress to impress (it is, after all, a gala!)

You are cordially invited to Native Home's Galentine's Day Gala. February 5th, 2026. 6-9PM.

In other news, the preorders for the ebook of The Coral Throne are going live, and the preorder for the paperback is coming. I love how the cover for The Coral Throne balances the cover for The Sea Prince. Fun fact — I first found and saved the stock images of Tarjiaan and Daanir years ago (they were first uploaded to Depositphotos in 2013,) and that image of Daanir changed how he appears in The Coral Throne. Both images came from the same photographer, who goes by Piolka on Depositphotos. They do beautiful work.

Work on King of Swords continues slowly — I came back to the manuscript to discover that I put it aside at the start of a sex scene, and I’ve said before how writing sex and violence both slow me down because I have to make sure of the blocking. Once this scene is done, the pace will pick up again… until the next sex scene or fight.

Back to work!

Insert Phantom Bagpipes Here.

Insert Phantom Bagpipes Here.

It is once again time for the annual aural hallucinations. Yes, it’s the day after the Highland Games. Insert phantom bagpipes here. Although I’m not hearing them this year as much as I usually do. I blame the weather shift yesterday that meant the entire games shut down for a couple of hours because of torrential rains that led to a 20 degree temperature drop that NO ONE was prepared for. Also, some truly evil winds. Tents went walkies. It was a whole mess. I did pick up a nice fluffy replica of Claire’s cowl from Outlander, but that was a necessary purchase. It was COLD.

(How cold was it? Salting the bridges in Magic Kingdom to prevent freezing cold. Falling Iguana cold. And yes, falling iguanas can be part of the weather forecasts in Florida.)

Now that the Games are over, I’m taking today as recovery, and then it’s time to get back to work. There will be one more pass at The Coral Throne, because I missed some things that were pointed out by a beta reader over the weekend. That will happen at the same time that I get back into King of Swords, because I need to reread the initial chapters I’d already written. I’m thinking late February for a release for The Coral Throne. Stay tuned.

Merlina Sherbourne was ready to close her magical shop for the holidays—until a charming stranger appears at her door carrying a curse and a quiet kind of desperation.

Camber Kincaid never meant to fall under a spell, but one enchanted ring leaves him with no choice but to seek help from a witch he’s never met. With Christmas fast approaching and magic misbehaving, Merlina agrees to help him break the curse… even if it means changing her holiday plans entirely.

What begins as a practical arrangement quickly turns into something warmer. Late-night conversations, gentle magic, and shared meals by the fire draw them closer, and soon Merlina and Camber discover that some connections feel impossibly natural—like they’ve always belonged together. As family secrets surface and old magic stirs, they’ll have to trust not only their spells, but their hearts.

Sweet, tender, and wrapped in holiday charm, Have Yourself a Merry Little Witchmas is a cozy paranormal romance about found family, soft magic, and falling in love when you least expect it.

Perfect for readers who love low-stakes romance, witchy coziness, and comforting seasonal reads to return to year after year.

Happy New Year? I Think?

Happy New Year? I Think?

Boy, 2026 started off…

I think that’s all we can say, isn’t it. 2026 started off. Happy New Year? I think?

Today is my first day back from a much-needed break. Today, I get started on the sensitivity edits on The Coral Throne, which I hope won’t take more than a week or two. Once they’re done, I’ll be able to get the cover started for the book (I have the stock images already picked out. It’s Daanir on the cover and I can’t wait for you to see him!)

And while we’re talking about The Coral Throne universe, I get to announce that The Sea Prince made it through the lottery for SPFBO 11! It will be read by a blog with which I am unfamiliar (The Fantasy Hive). I hope they like it!

In other news, Have Yourself a Merry Little Witchmas came out on December 23rd, and you can find it on Kindle Unlimited. I’m currently thinking about the next book in the Coven Tree series (tentative title — Six More Weeks of Witches), and planning out the series as a whole. I might start actually writing it if things stay quiet at the tents at the Highland Games. We’ll see how that goes.

The Highland Games are why I’m not jumping right into working on King of Swords. I’m going to be distracted by prep for the Games, and I know it, so I’m going to work on something shorter and easier to transition away from if I need to go do something else. If you come by the Games, you’ll find me at Bairn Care, near the clan tents. Stop in and say hi!

The other project I’m pulling out of mothballs is Holy Orders, which is the sequel to Heart’s Master. 2026 marks ten years since Heart’s Master first came out, and I really should get the next book done. Especially since Coven Tree is set in the same universe, and we might be seeing some familiar faces in the later Coven Tree books. I just need to see where I broke the manuscript (which is why I put it aside the first time.)

In person events are lining up in the schedule. I have at least one a month for every month except May (and I might be traveling in May, so I may leave that month open.) The schedule is below, so check it out and come find me at an event!

“I forgot to turn off the subtitles on my inside voice.”

“I forgot to turn off the subtitles on my inside voice.”

“I forgot to turn off the subtitles on my inside voice.” The line that made me giggle for several minutes. I am enjoying this manuscript. These characters are wonderfully snarky, and I’m just having fun. Now, that’s not to say that i don’t enjoy all of my writing. I do. But Merlina and Camber are amusing me all out of proportion, and the hard part is going to be keeping this to the required 20,000 words. I keep telling myself that sequels are a thing.

Which means I need to make a series plan. I’ll work on that during my down time once I finish this, while they’re still fresh in my head. Which might mean doing research into Elizabethan history, because if there are going to be sequels, there also need to be origin stories and oh my giddy aunt…

I’m starting to plan out my 2026 appearances, and three new shows have hit the radar all within the past three days. The organizer of the Page and Pen festival has announced THREE dates for 2026, in April, June and October. I’ve applied for all three, so we’ll see how things go and if I get all three. Once I know, I’ll add them to the calendar.

I just had a Lorcan moment. I looked at the calendar, and realized that today is the 13th. That means that this Saturday is the 18th, and Ravenflight releases. I seriously thought I had another week, because I somehow forgot how numbers work. How is this a Lorcan moment? Because in Ravenflight, he gets blindsided by something, and his response is “I thought I knew how to count!”

Which means I should leave you with this:

A hero. A son of Eire. A reckoning long overdue.

Lorcan never asked for glory. Crowned a noble and hailed as a savior after crushing rebellion, he walks the marble halls adored by all—except himself. Haunted by prophetic visions, he sees not triumph, but torment: his family caged, his homeland threatened, and his cousin’s dark ambitions on the rise.

He knows where he must go.

Leaving behind the splendor of Empire, Lorcan returns to the emerald wilds of Eire, where ancient magic stirs and old loyalties are tested. Beside him stand his mates and his chosen kin—fierce, loyal, and willing to follow him into the heart of danger. But the blood that binds can also betray, and the most dangerous enemy may not be on the battlefield… but seated at his own family’s table.

Breathing Space.

Breathing Space.

The three week run of shows is now over, and I have a little breathing space before my next outing. Time to rest, to resupply, and to get some writing done! And other writing work — page proofs came in today for Ravenflight, and I need to turn these around quickly. I also need to get some words done on Have Yourself a Merry Little Witchmas, because that deadline is creeping up on me. Assuming I can keep from having a million little things pop up that keep me from writing and editing, I’ll get these done on time. I just need to focus.

Which is something of a tall order, but not impossible.

(insert ten minutes doing promo on Facebook.)

Where was I? Oh, right. Focus. I can focus. Twenty-four completed novels in fourteen years says that I can focus quite well. But I can’t focus all the time. Sometimes, there will be doomscrolling. Sometimes, there will be cat videos on Tiktok. And sometimes, there will be random promotional posts that break out in the middle of a paragraph. So getting these two things done? Completely doable, especially now that there are no shows to prep for until the 24th, and that one is an abbreviated catalog show (which means that the exceptionally spicy books have to stay home.) Page proofs will be done this week, then I need to buckle down and get the other 15K words on the page for Witchmas.

Two Down, One to Go…

Two Down, One to Go…

Past Me was insane. That’s all there is to it. To schedule three shows in three weeks? Bonkers. Two down, one to go. We got home from Necronomicon Tampa last night, and we have four days to reset before we reload the car for the Page and Pen Festival at the Oviedo Mall.

In the meantime, I’ve spent the day getting my end of quarter admin work done. Q3 taxes are in, and the kanban board is reset for Q4.

How the heck is it Q4 already?

The most brain-draining thing I have to do this week, other than working on Have Yourself a Merry Little Witchmas, is that I have to choose a new headshot. My old one (the one currently in my media kit and on my about the author page) is ten years old and approaching “if you’re in publishing long enough, your headshot will be your greatest work of fiction” territory. Time for a new one. But WHICH ONE? I have four potentials, and that’s about as far as I got in narrowing it down.

If any of you have strong feelings about the matter, let me know! Once I have it narrowed down to one (or two), I’ll update the media kit and the website.

The new covers for Blood of the Raven are live, and they are GORGEOUS! Remember, if you have read Princes of Air or Raven’s Fall, you’ve read books one and two already. But if you want your books to match, you want these. Book three comes out October 18th.

But for now… back to work!

Let’s Do It Again!!!

Let’s Do It Again!!!

Smut Lovers Conference was amazingly fun. How much fun? Enough to say let’s do it again! We’ll be back for 2026!

I think this might be the furthest out I’ve ever scheduled an event.

I am… so incredibly fuzzy today. More than just the usual “It’s Monday and I had PT this morning” fuzziness. I’m still recovering from Smut Lovers and that incredible signing. I have never felt so appreciated as an author than I did at Smut Lovers — I had readers saying “Thank you for writing these books! Here, have a present!” (We were given candy, bookmarks, jewelry, and the cutest tiny little ducks!) That was so completely unexpected, and so very sweet!

All of the new covers for the Blood of the Raven books are now live — you can buy ebooks of Ravenborn and Ravenfall, and the ebook for Ravenflight is up for preorder. I’m not sure when the paperbacks will be available, but I’ll let you all know when they are!

On to the next show! Time to repack the book boxes, LABEL the book boxes, and get ready for Necronomicon!

Tomorrow. I’ll do that tomorrow.

The Only Constant is Change

The Only Constant is Change

Have you heard the phrase “The only constant is change?” It’s true, especially in publishing. Trends change, and you have to go with it.

And that’s why the entire Blood of the Raven series is getting new covers to celebrate the release of book three!

Wait, what? Didn’t book 2 just come out a few months ago?

Yes, yes it did. And yes, I do love that cover. But it appears that the cover art trend is shifting, and that shiny new cover is already dated. So… shiny new covers! AND… new titles!

Princes of Air was already due a new cover, but now the title will be in line with the other two books, and it will officially be book one of the Blood of the Raven series, under the title Ravenborn.

Raven’s Fall will now be known as Ravenfall (one word). That and the new cover are the only changes

Which brings us to the newest bird in the flock.

Ravenflight is now available for preorder on Amazon and through the Riverdale Avenue Book page. (The paperback is only at the publisher right now, but more sites are coming.) Ravenflight launches on October 18th.

Given the mid-October release date, I will not have Ravenflight on my table until Maker Faire in November, and I may not have all the new covers to sell until the Enchanted Knights Winter Bazaar in December. We shall see. If I do have them all at Maker Faire, there will be a series discount.
