From Dusk ’til Dawn

New today! Well… sort of.

New release today! From Forbidden Fiction, my novella Chains of Light!

When Delan stumbled into the Temple, he wasn’t expecting to be welcomed as a Temple servant. He wasn’t expecting his only duty to be to serve Lyander, cloistered son of the High Priestess. He wasn’t expecting to fall in love.

Now, some of you might be thinking “Hey, this sounds familiar.”  You’re right. This is a reprint of my novella From Dusk ’til Dawn (published in 2013.) Which does NOT mean you should not buy this one. First, you can’t get From Dusk ’til Dawn anymore because that publisher went out of business.  Second, this version has been newly edited, which means I had to chance to clean up some timing errors that made me cringe every time I read the previously published version. Third, we have a wonderful new cover. I’m in love with the new cover art — at the top is Lyander, and that is exactly how I pictured him when I first wrote the story way back.

New book! Go enjoy!

Work in Progress: The White Raven, week 13

Another week, more fight scenes. I’m starting to wonder why I set a book in Imperial Rome…

It’s been a long weekend. I spent the weekend at the Central Florida Highland Games, where I foolishly thought I’d be able to get some writing done.

I can hear you laughing, you know.

Luckily for me, I’d gotten enough done earlier in the week that not making my word count three days in a row didn’t hurt me at all. I’m still ahead of where I should be in total words, although I’m starting to wonder if I can bring this book in for a landing in 100K words. I’m at 68K, and I still haven’t gotten Lorcan out of Rome.

Umm… I wasn’t planning on having this be another trilogy, I swear.

In other news, I’ve got a release date for the novella that was once called From Dusk ’til Dawn. The new title is Chains of Light, and it will be released by Forbidden Fiction on February 13th. I even have a pretty new cover!

I like this cover even more than the original!

Also, chapter 2 of Fools Rush In is now live on the Forbidden Fiction website. (log in required, but free!) Go read!

Work in Progress: The White Raven, week 12

Did you ever have one of those days, where you roll out of bed and all of a sudden it’s bedtime? And you look around and say “I know I had a day here. I was going to get so much done. Where did it go? Honestly. It was right here a minute ago!”

Yeah, that’s been my day.

My problem wasn’t that I mislaid the day, it’s that I had too many things to do and not enough day to put them in. So what fell to the wayside?

If you guessed writing, you win the prize! What prize? Well… I’ve got a free read currently being serialized over on the Forbidden Fiction website. (Log-in required, but it’s free!)

Not getting any writing done today isn’t the problem it was last week, though. I cranked up my word count this week, and I’m ahead of where I should be this week (even without having written a word today), and just ahead of the “If you write so many words a day, you should have X words today” wordcount.

In other news, I’ve got a date for my first 2018 release. My novella From Dusk ’til Dawn, which was originally published by a now-defunct publisher, is being re-released by Forbidden Fiction on February 13th. I haven’t seen the new cover art yet. I can’t wait!

An Embarrassment of Riches

Yesterday, I posted about selling my novella Sapphires and Gold.

Today, there were two more contracts in my email. Sold, to Forbidden Fiction, Hidden Things (book one of The Swords of Charlemagne), and the reprint rights to From Dusk ’til Dawn.

Writing business

So, one of my publishers has gone out of business, and I’ve just gotten my rights reversion for The Rape of Persephone and for From Dusk ’til Dawn.

I’ll be getting Persephone back up ASAP as a self-published story, and checking with my publishers to see if they’re interested in a reprint on Dusk.

Business fun…

Cover reveal — From Dusk 'til Dawn.

I’ve got a novella coming out next week. From Dusk ’til Dawn is part of the For the Love of the Gods anthology from Ishtar Press, the romance imprint of Pagan Writers Press. From Dusk ’til Dawn will be released as an e-book stand-alone novella, then will be rolled into the print anthology.

And here is the LOVELY cover that Angelique Mroczka made for me!

1---DuskDawn

And the blurb:

When Delan stumbled into the Temple, he wasn’t expecting to be welcomed as a Temple servant. He wasn’t expecting his only duty to be to serve Lyander, cloistered son of the High Priestess. He wasn’t expecting to fall in love.

And he wasn’t expecting that he was going to have to choose: love, or saving the world.

If you are on Facebook, you can check out the virtual release party, starting August 16th.

Mixed emotions.

Yesterday was a real up and down day. I found out that Philip the Foole, a well-known BDSM expert and a long-time net friend, had passed away unexpectedly on Sunday the 14th. I have known Philip (virtually, anyway) for so many years not that I’m not even sure I can put a number to it, and the last time I spoke to him, it was through Laura Antoniou’s Facebook page, where he told me (and everyone else) how much he liked “Oh, Promise Me!”

Hard to get my brains around the fact that he’s gone. I’d always hoped to meet him in person.

A few hours after I learned about Philip, I got the email from Pagan Writers Press that they were interested in the novella I sent off to them a few months ago. The sale of From Dusk ’til Dawn is therefore a little bittersweet.

What’s upcoming on the Schechter writing radar?

Well, my next novel, the steampunk erotic romance House of Sable Locks, will be coming from Circlet sometime soon. How soon? Not sure. I sent the page proofs back in a couple of weeks ago, which means we’re in the home stretch. But we’ve been having trouble finding a cover. I mean, just WHAT do you put on the cover for a book where the hero is a half-trained Mad Scientist, and the heroine is a machine?

Yeah, that was a FUN book to write. Skirted some real legal issues there, too. There were a few chapters that had to be gutted and rewritten to avoid the whole “It was legal when this book happened. It is NOT LEGAL NOW!” gray area.

After that, I’ve got another novel in the slush at Circlet. This one is a paranormal BDSM M/M romance called Heart’s Master, and I’m pretty pleased with it. Especially since it took six years to write!  I’m trying to be patient, but patience is not my strongest virtue.

Another M/M romance went off to Circlet too, a few weeks ago. That one is a high fantasy novella called Sapphires and Gold. When I started it, it was supposed to be erotic horror, but apparently, while I can do erotic pretty durned well, I cannot write horror to save my life.

I seem to like writing M/M, because another novella went off to the Pagan Writers Press a few weeks ago, too. That one was From Dusk ’til Dawn,  and it was another high fantasy.

And right now, I’m writing a science-fiction BDSM erotic novel called Tales from the Arena. I’m hoping to have this done by June 1, so that I can focus on my son for the summer.  So, that being said, I need to get back to work!
