That’s about how I’m feeling at the moment. I just won NaNoWriMo (50K words in a month), AND the ending of Wings of Air just snuck up on me. So that number up there? That’s the total. It’s complete.

Here, have a cover to celebrate!

I honestly wasn’t expecting to finish this book today, nearly three weeks ahead of my schedule. Which is good, in a way. It give me that three weeks to finish John Zebedee Meets the Witch Queen of Elfland, which is going to be a much longer book than I thought.

So what happens now? Now, edits! In Patreon, Wings of Air will run until mid-February (I think) so that means we’re looking at late February or early March for a wide release. (I might hold out for March, just because I have Hidden Things coming out in January.) Now remember, if you don’t want to wait, you can always go join me over on Patreon and read Wings from the beginning.

Now, if you’ve been with me for a while, you know what’s coming. It’s December tomorrow.

Cookiepocalypse is coming!

This year, I’m being practically sedate in my baking. Virtuous, even! I’m only making… (looks at list) six different kinds!

But first, I need to finish John Zebedee.

(Forgot the Title Again)

Day 16 of Nanowrimo. Day… something of Quarantine. Day Infinity plue something of 2020.

Has anyone else lost complete track of time? Like, you have no idea when in time you are anymore? I got a call last week to set up my next regular appointment for something, and the scheduler said “Let’s get the December appointment set!” And I said, “Wait, December?”

But it’s November 16th, which means we’re halfway through November, and halfway through NaNoWriMo. Now, I’m being a NaNo rebel. I’m working on two pieces at the same time. And as you can see below, it’s working surprisingly well!

Now, I’m being a NaNo rebel. I’m working on two pieces  One of them (Witch Queen) was started for NaNo, so I’m doing NaNoWriMo and NaNoFiMo (National Novel FINISHING Month) at the same time. And as you can see below, it’s working surprisingly well!

My goal on both of these is the usual goal at this time of year — Draft by the Solstice.  I might finish Witch Queen by the end of the month, but considering where I am wordwise and where I am story-wise? That goal might be really low. Like… really low.

On the other hand, Wings of Air is wrapping up. Maybe another two chapters? Maybe three, at the outside. But we’re almost there. Then comes the last book, and then… well, we’ll see that later.

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have seen me posting about Romancing the Runoff. This is a charity auction where Romancelandia is standing behind Stacey Abrams, and helping fund the Georgia runoff so we can flip the Senate Blue and actually get some stuff done for the next four years. The auction opens on the 18th of November, and there’s a LOT of good stuff in there (there are 16 pages of donations. And if you go through it, you’ll find that there’s a signed Heir to the Firstborn set in there.) Some of the offerings will be really valuable to the novice writer in your life, so maybe think holiday gifts? And some of them are awesomely fun — tea and poundcake with Tessa Dare and Courtney Milan? How cool is that?

There isn’t much else going on in my neck of the woods. Figured out the Thanksgiving menu (not turkey) and the Christmas menu (yes, turkey). Starting to think about Cookiepocalypse 2020, which will be a much smaller one this year, because I’m not sending cookies to the office (Husband is now fully remote) or the school (Son is also fully remote). And starting to plan out preorder ads and new release blitzes for Hidden Things. (which, as a preorder, is 605th in the primary category. Not bad!)

Now, off to make lunch, then make all the words! See you all next week!

It’s November! Quick, Write a Novel!

(I had written a brilliant post. Absolutely brilliant… and lost it when I accidentally closed the browser. Ummm… genius is fleeting?

It’s November, which means that Nanowrimo has started, and everyone is going to write a novel this month. Or at least, everyone is going to write 50K words. That’s most of a novel. Or, if we’re looking at the Heir to the Firstborn books, about half of one. If we’re looking at John Zebedee? That’s a book and a half.

I started John Zebedee Meets the Witch Queen of Elfland for my Nano project, and I think I can finish it in the month. And, since it’s novella length, I’ll be doing it while finishing up Wings of Air.

And then what? What am I going to do after I finally put John Zebedee to bed and get him out of my hair? Well, I have one more Heir to the Firstborn book to finish up after Wings of Air. And I have edits. Lots and lots of edits. I’m releasing the Swords of Charlemagne books in 2021, and while Hidden Things is ready to go… the other three books are not. I have my notes from the editor who worked on them, and I’ll be working on those once John Zebedee is finished.

There’s a cover reveal for Hidden Things this Friday in my newsletter. If you don’t read the newsletter, you won’t get that cover until next week. You’ll also miss this month’s recipe for one of my favorite Thanksgiving sides.

Let's Keep in Touch!

Please wait...

Thanks for signing up!

I’m trying hard not to think about tomorrow. Tomorrow scares me in ways that I think I have never been scared before. And I keep trying not to think of the scene from Attack of the Clones:

So This is How Liberty Dies on Disney Video

I have hope, though. That’s about all we can have at this point. I mean, I voted two weeks ago. I did my part. But like any group project, our final grade is now dependent on if everyone else did THEIR parts.

So… hopeful but nervous.

However… I do a daily Tarot card drawing during the week, which I post on Twitter. I started almost a year ago, and the cards have not been wrong. Ever.  They’ve been scary accurate in places (like the day they didn’t want to talk to me, so I just pulled any card. It was Justice, and that was the day that RBG died.)

This was today’s card:

Significant change.

Positive, transformative cleansing.

Please let it be so!

See you on the flip side.

>Final word count

>51,547 words.

Final because I am going to bed. And this is just final for Nano. The book isn’t done yet.

>Wordcount as of five minutes ago: 50103.

No, Drum Mage still isn’t done. But it’s closer than it was a month ago, and I know where it’s going from here. I’ll be working on it more today, and I’ll post a final wordcount tonight before I log off.

>That's more like it!

>Working on Drum Mage — 1472 words today, and the day isn’t over yet.

MUCH better

>Screw it.

>Zeroed the word count and changed tracks. I’m pretty sure I can beat my Sable Locks Nano word count of 1600 by the end of the day with working on Drum Mage.

>Annoyances

>I’m working on finishing House of Sable Locks for Nano. So of COURSE Steven from Drum Mage is yelling in my ear. Probably because I just did a little something up in that world for a holiday offering.

If Sable Locks doesn’t start pulling together today, I might zero out my Nano wordcount and start over on Drum Mage.

>Remember how I said I was really superstitious about Nano?

Yeah…. Thursday morning my sister was hit by a car.

She’s FINE, thank Deity. A little banged up. But now I’m pretty much convinced I’m bloody cursed.

I’m still doing Nano. I’m still going to finish Sable Locks by 12/1. But you can call me very nervous for the rest of the month….
