Remember how last week I said that the writing was going really well?

Things almost immediately thereafter took a turn for the very weird, and the writing slowed down again. Not bad. Just weird, and I’m working on getting back into a rhythm of writing again.  I’m trying not to fall behind again.

Which is going to be very interesting going forward, because I just filed the papers to run for the RWA Board as a Director at Large in the special election that will happen next month.

How many people just went “Wait, WHAT????”

Last Thursday, the entire RWA Board resigned. All of them. A special election was called, and the call went out for candidates. I took a look at the requirements, and I talked to people. I asked former BOD members about their jobs and responsibilities, and I spent a lot of time thinking about what they said. I asked permission of my chapter — being elected means I have to stand down as President-Elect to FFPRWA, although it does give me a month to find someone willing to step up into my position if I have to resign it.

So now what? Well, I keep writing. One of the factors in my decision to run was that I can balance Bones of Earth and the Board.  If I am on the BOD for longer than the seven months that is projected — if I run for reelection in August? I have the Swords of Charlemagne books almost ready to go. A lot of people have told me that being on the BOD had a negative impact on their writing. Right now, I very well might be in my best position to do this. It’s not the only reason I decided, but it would be a lie to say it wasn’t a factor.

No, what really made the decision for me is what I put as the hashtag on my Twitter announcement. I am putting my money where my big mouth is — I was very vocal against the previous board and their lack of… well ANYTHING beneficial to the RWA. Now I have a chance to be the change.

Something else I said on Twitter? “Doing nothing is not an option.”

The election voting opens March 13 and closes the 20th. So I’ll know in just over a month.
