Writer, on writing

I apparently wrote this list up in 2009, and found it when I took a look at a long-defunct blog of mine. It still holds true (there was MUCH MORE to the flashback chapters of House of Sable Locks. Be thankful for the chainsaw.)

The Four Levels of Manuscript Revision

Level 1: Scalpel.
Corrections to grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Level 2: Butcher Knife.
Finding that you used the wrong word or phrase and correcting same.

Level 3: Machete
Taking out lines or rewriting scenes because they don’t work.

Level 4: Chain Saw
Holy sweet weeping Jesus on a spavined mule,  what was I THINKING????
